In the last post I mentioned about printing simple blocks using a Gel Press with thin acrylic paints. This introduction led me onto exploring a little more deeply how prints might be enhanced using the Stylus and encaustic art wax block colours. The printed acrylic paints can be over-printed many times, but their colour value is never as strong and punchy as the encaustic art wax colours can be. So I took this print, developed using the same things as in the original demo done on Hochanda TV, and then added and enhanced using the wax.
I used the Stylus Pro with drawing tip. The original single temperature Stylus would be just as good for this work too. Blending colours, elaborating, keeping transparency by mixing with clear medium (No27) or pastelising to create soft and denser opaque colours by mixing with white.
It is good to compare these side by side to see just how the wax colours have added and altered the original print. I felt they brought dimension and more contrast and strength to the piece. What do you think?
