Hard at work doing the ironing!
...well, actually demonstrating how to use the iron for encaustic art.

In her own words...
I was born in a small village, Oudegem (Belgium), and went to High
School to become a teacher. After my marriage in 1969 we moved to a tourist
place called Kasterlee. As a child I was already making drawings, and
later I went to an Art School in Geel for 6 years to learn the basic techniques
of oil painting. I love modern-realistic paintings, inspired by nature.
During holidays I made water colour paintings of the beautiful views there.
I had several exhibitions and received some awards. I also
learnt how to do parchment-craft (which I now teach), but the small parchment
works take a lot of time to make and the size is too limited for me. On
an demonstration day in an artist shop I discovered encaustic art. I tried
it and loved it right away. It offers so many possibilities: modern work,
realistic work, ... Sometimes it feels like I make sculptures with wax.
Every day I discover new techniques or applications, even
portraits are quite possible. In our last exhibition at the beginning
of May people were fascinated by the results of wax paintings. Painting
for me is relaxing and creative. I wish I could spent more time doing
it.
