  • Weight in Box 7.2Kg (17lb) (unpacked)

The hotplate takes over where the small upturned iron is just no longer big enough to cope.

It can be used with supports on top, as a heated palette for roller work or for other tools, for direct wax application from the glass surface, as a palette for warming & mixing tins or trays of colour, direct brush palette & so on.

Note: This hotplate is NOT designed to heat tins containing more than 1cm to 2 cm deep of resin type waxes (higher melt point than encaustic art blocks). It is suitable for all direct surface work and for shallow flat based metal tin palettes - good base surface contact of tins is essential.

This sponge set contains 4 pieces - 3 white block hard sponges - ideal for pushing wax around on a surface when molten. Also for forming hard edges, lines & so on.

The orange sponge is a synthetic absorbent sponge that is great for dabbing techniques. Pick up colour from the molten hotplate or up-turned iron & place it where want - excellent for foliage.

Encaustic Art Brush Set - 5 natural hair brushes
Find this particular product in the online encaustic.com shop

There is nothing quite like a brush for depositing colour. But molten wax requires brushes to be heat tolerant, so these natural hair ones are ideal.

Molten colour can be collected from the upturned iron, the hotplate palette or tins holding a reserve of molten colour on either of the heating devices.

When depositing the liquid wax colour onto the support the wax will congeal & set even as you make the brush stroke if the support is cold, so definitive strokes are needed.

On a heated support brushes behave similar to acrylics or oils.

Head sizes included:
2mm / 4mm / 8mm / 12mm & 20mm .

Using the hotplate as a working palette tray to keep wax colours & tool heads hot.

The hogs hair encaustic art brushes cope very well with heat, so are not affected by the reasonably low temperatures of molten wax colours.

Resting the bristle heads on the hotplate keep them warmed & ready for immediate use. They can simply be wiped clean or 'puddled' in some clear wax, then wiped. Normally it is best to work ' up & down' through close colours to avoid too much cleaning - or reserve different brushes for the main colours you are using. Note: This hotplate is NOT designed to heat tins containing more than 1cm to 2 cm deep of resin type waxes (higher melt point than encaustic art blocks). It is suitable for all direct surface work and for shallow flat based metal tin palettes - good base surface contact of tins is essential.

Encaustic Art Scrapy Wax Mover Set - 5 rubber tipped tools
Find this particular product in the online encaustic.com shop

The scrapy wax movers are simply rubber tipped wooden handled tools that can help in placement & shaping of the molten liquid wax colour. There are several tip shapes from fine to broad - some small, some larger. Can be used with acrylics & oils too.
